Katarzyna Kowalska, born on June 13, 1973 in Sulejówek, Poland, is a Polish pop rock singer, songwriter, producer and actress. Her
musical career took off in the 80s when she performed as vocalist for many Polish bands, including Human, Fatum and Talking Pictures.
She began her solo career in 1994 with the album aptly called Gemini, her astrological sign - compositions reflecting her complex personality.
Her stage name is Kasia Kowalska.
In 1995 she won the Grand Prix at the Sopot Festival. (One of the judges was Malcolm McLaren). Subsequently, she released her second
album Koncert Inaczej which was a collection of her live performances.
In 1996 she finished 15th place in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Chcę znać swój grzech. She received a combined total of 31
points from Turkey, Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but little from others.) She landed a role in a movie called Nocne Graffiti in
addition to recording the soundtrack for it. She also recorded a song, The Prayer of Esmeralda, for the soundtrack of a Disney movie, The
Hunchback Of Notre Dame.
In 2001 Kowalska was nominated for MTV Europe Music Awards and won "The Best Polish Artist" award.
All the lyrics are written by her and reflect much of her own personal experiences, mostly about love and disappointments. Because of her
strong vocal talent and easy communication with fans, she is known as a "stage animal". She has worked with some of the best Polish
musicians including the inimitable Wojciech Pilichowski.
