Ania Dąbrowska

Ania is a Polish singer and composer. She was born January 7, 1981 in Chelm, her birthname, Ania Dąbrowska.  Her music is a combination
of pop and soul, inspired by retro music reminiscent of Polish music of the 1960s.

She began her musical education while still in high school and learned how to play contrabass,  as well as participating in numerous vocal
competitions. Her first public appearance was in 2002 for the first season of the Polish edition of a TV show called Pop Idol.  She reached
the final top 10.  In the same year she collaborated with Polish singer Krzysztof Krawczyk  on his album "bo marze i snie" which became a hit.

She released her debut album in February 2004, entitled Samotność po zmierzchu (eng. Solitude After Dusk) which became an enormous
success artistically as well as commercially.  The singles "Tego chciałam" (eng. That's What I Wanted), "Charlie, Charlie" (cover of the song
by A Camp) and "Inna" (eng. Different) - did extremely well on the pop charts.

Ania performed in the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole, and received wide acclaim with the song "Glory".  From then on she was
among the most popular singers in Poland and won many awards including the Eswka Music Award.  By the fall of that same year her first
album went Gold, with over 40,000 copies sold..

In 2006 she released a second album Kilka historii na ten sam temat (eng. A Few Stories on the Same Subject). The songs were inspired by
Polish music popular in the 60s and 70s.  Her music video of the single "Trudno mi sie przyznac" (Its Hard To Admit) reflected her retro-
inspired image, also reproduced on the album cover.  The album surpassed the success of the debut record and sold over 50,000 copies.  It
was highly praised by critics and the media.   The album was promoted by three singles inlcuding "Czekam" (I'm Waiting).  It wasn't long until
it became a Platinum Record.

In June of 2008 Ania released her third album, W spodniach czy w sukience? (eng. In Trousers or in Dress?). The single  "Nigdy więcej nie
tańcz ze mną" (eng. Never Dance with Me Again) became an enormous hit in Poland reaching number one in the charts. It very quickly
became Platinum as well.  She also released the title song as a single.   A year later she collaborated with a French band called Nouvelle
Vague, recording Robert Palmer's class, "John and Mary", which received a lot of airplay on Polish radio stations. Another solo single was
released in the fall, entitled "Nigdy nie mów nigdy" (eng. Never Say Never), from the movie of the same name.

Ania released her fourth studio album in April 2010, Ania Movie, including covers of her favourite movie tracks. The album reached number
one spot as soon as it was released.  Plans for a promotional tour however had to be postponed because of Ania's health problems.  Her
first child was born in July of that year.
