At the peak of its operations, the Home Army (AK) consisted of about 400,000 fighters among whom were
11,000 commissioned officers, 6,000 officers in training, and 88,000 non-commissioned officers.

In the first six months of 1944, the AK gunned down over 580 German soldiers. In Warsaw alone, ten
German soldiers were being killed every day.  Though the AK was greatly outnumbered by the Germans
in men and materiel, the Poles possessed a fierce spirit and never surrendered despite vicious German
  reprisals.

On February 1, 1944, the AK assassinated the police chief of the Warsaw District, SS General Kutschera.
There were numerous assassinations of German officers and soldiers.

Between January 1943 and June 1944 the AK pronounced 2,015 death sentences on Polish citizens who
were found guilty of collaborating with the Germans by acting as informers, or blackmailing Jews.

Many Poles of the Home Army who were interned in labor camps in German factories carried out acts of
sabotage in the manufacture of numerous items, particularly military equipment and supplies.
